This post is inspired by the endless swaying palm trees and insatiable hospitality of the Hawaiian people. ALOHA!
I fell in love for the first time in Hawaii (Hi Mike!). Here’s the abridged version of a crazy tale. We had been doing long distance for 4 months; him in Canada, me in New Zealand. We met through work, with a big international financial company and we had been pen pals since hitting it off via email. We had met once on a whirlwind trip to Toronto and had been “seeing” each other for 4 months.
Hawaii was smack bang in the middle. He was all for Air Bnb, I was all for 5 star. We fell in love both with the Kahala, from it’s amazing, grand lobby laden with orchids to the dolphin lagoon on site and also with each other.
When the Kahala was built in 1964, in the wealthy affluent Honolulu neighbourhood of.. Kahala, it was the world’s most expensive hotel at the time. Today it may not boast that same title but what it does, it does incredibly well. It feels like being at home, but in the home you always dreamt of.
There are three restaurants onsite and a private beach. There is a free shuttle service to downtown Honolulu where you can go shopping!! I took him to Harry Winston. hehe. It’s an incredibly family friendly spot and out of the way of the tourist traps.
There’s a little mall in walking distance called the Kahala Mall with some cute shops and a Starbucks. Coming home to the Kahala from adventuring each day to the North Shore and Waikiki beach was amazing, we felt so at home.
Take us back!!!
